The Video Professor Is A Douche
The Video Professor is one of those guys you might never think much about except maybe being awake at 3AM on a Sunday and one of his infomericials comes on. What’s the weirdest thing about this guy is he is selling videos about how to use your computer but the things are supposed to play on the computer, which begs the question if you can’t already use your computer how can you use this? Well with that as their product it’s always seem odd he’s been around so long clearly making enough money to keep the ads going, and now we’ve got some reasons why. Technocrunch bothered to go to his website where for a quick second mentions the number $290 and then never says it again, and if you happen to add something to your cart, congrats, it’s only going to cost $4.65….. oh except for that $290 they mentioned on one page ten pages ago. Anyhow, the Video Professor is a scam, he gets called out, and then spends the rest of his time trying to get people to not report he is a scam, which is all good scammers are really good at.
What you see when you first hit the site depends on how you got there – directly or via an advertising partner. The least scammy version is what you see if you go to videoprofessor.com directly. On the home page in very small font is a statement that you are going to be charged $290 if you engage in a transaction with them. But that’s the only on-screen disclosure you’ll see. Click on a product and go to the next page and you are told you get lots of stuff for free, all you have to do is pay up to a $10 shipping charge. You choose your product and you’re on to the checkout page. Nothing is stated about the $290 charge. After that you are on the final checkout page, showing a total price of $4.56. There’s no fine print, just two links on the page to pages with hugely long agreements with text hidden in the middle of it all that you are actually being sent tons of products and you’ll be charged $290 for them all if you don’t cancel in ten days.
